Grattamacco 2016 Bolgheri Rosso

Blend of 60% Cabernet, 20% Franc, 10% Merlot and 10% Sangiovese, shows some Bordeaux like characters while remaining classically Tuscan. 10 months in two and three year old oak sees this play a supportive role only.

The quality of the 2016 vintage for red wines across Italy was outstanding and more new releases have landed in our warehouse recently. The wines from Tuscany in particular look effortless, wines that drink so well while young that you can easily overlook their cellaring potential.

The Grattamacco 2016 Bolgheri Rosso is no exception. It stood out when tasted at Vinitaly last April and is even more impressive now with extra time in the bottle.

Like most young reds that have the capacity to cellar for a decade this takes a little time to fully open up and decanting is recommended.

The aromas roll from dark berries / prunes to more herbal and savoury characters without ever losing its Tuscan identity.

It is medium weight and elegant with power and persistence.

Exceptional fruit quality and fine tannins are in perfect harmony.

The Podere Grattamacco 2016 Bolgheri Rosso sees Cabernet Sauvignon blended with Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Sangiovese. This is a terrific expression that shows harmony and intensity all at once. This wine does not offer overt fruit. Instead, it moves forth with savory tones of spice, leather and tobacco. Black fruit and plum is tucked in there at the back. There is enough texture and natural fiber here to stop the wine from drying out or from feeling flat. This Tuscan blend should hold steady for the better part of the next decadeRobert Parker Wine Advocate
