New Release: Stella Bella 2017 Cabernet Merlot

You simply have to be impressed with what Luke Joliffe [winemaker] and Steve Martin [viticulturist] have achieved at Stella Bella since they took over their respective roles in 2014.
Stella Bella’s success at the Margaret River Wine Show last year confirmed their status as one of the regions top wineries. Six trophies including Best Exhibitor and recognition for Steve Martin who was named Viticulturalist of the Year.

The 2017 Stella Bella Cabernet Merlot, one of the trophy winners, was released this week. A blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot and 5% Malbec, this clearly has more power and structure than the very elegant, very drinkable 2016 vintage.   One of the features of Stella Bella Cabernet’s at all levels over the past 5 years has been the elimination of any ‘green’ characters. This wine shows perfectly ripe, classically regional red and blue fruits with fine grain tannins providing ample structure. Like all great wines all components are in perfect harmony.
This remains one of Margaret River’s real bargains – either for immediate consumption or for 5 years or more in the cellar.
