Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri awards 2021

Gambero Rosso’s 2021 Vini d’Italia (Italian Wines) has been released and the Tre Bicchieri awards announced. This annual wine guide provides a renowned indication of the best wines coming out of Italy this year.

The below wines from our portfolio were awarded the highest accolades.

Negretti 2016 Barolo ‘Rive’ DOCG – Tre Bicchieri
“Tre Bicchieri for the Barolo Rive ’16 with its elegant aromas amidst wild strawberries, tobacco and sweet spices; on the palate it’s elegant and complex, medium-bodied, with creamy tannins and a long, dynamic finish.”

Negretti 2016 Barolo DOCG – Due Bicchieri
“We also appreciated the Barolo ’16, an airy wine in its notes of licorice, fresh flowers and raspberries. Elegant and classic, it’s got a powerful palate and tannic finesse.”

The 2016 Barolo ‘Mirau’ DOCG and 2016 Barolo ‘Bricco Ambrogio’ DOCG were also awarded 2 red glasses (Due Bicchieri).

Borgoluce 2019 Prosecco Superiore ‘Rive di Collalto’ DOCG Extra Brut – Tre Bicchieri
Available in May

“Perfectly expresses precision and quality. This Prosecco succeeds in the difficult task of combining the distinctive style and simplicity of this wine type and the depth and delicacy conferred by the Collalto vineyard.”

Istine 2018 ‘Vigna Istine’ Chianti Classico DOCG – Tre Bicchieri
Available in May

“Truly delicious, able to express itself fully aromatically with fragrance and olfactory detail, managing to hold together complexity and gustatory pleasantness on the palate.”

Istine 2017 ‘Le Vigne’ Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG – Due Bicchieri
Available in May

“We also very much appreciated the Chianti Classico Le Vigne Riserva ’17, a wine that’s as summery as it is lean and responsive on the palate.”

Frascole 2017 Chianti Rufina Riserva DOCG – Due Bicchieri
Available in May

“The Chianti Rufina Riserva ’17 is delicious, with intense mineral hints (flint), fruity sensations (plum) and spicy whiffs (cloves). On the palate it’s tasty, firm and balanced in its tannins—it has commendable acidic verve.”

Fonterutoli 2017 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione ‘Castello di Fonterutoli’ – Due Bicchieri
Available in June

”…features almost overpowering aromas of red berries and spices, with smoky hints on the finish; the palate is pervasive, tight, full of character.”
