Margaret River’s Luminosa & Suckfizzle win Platinum Medals in the world’s most recognised wine awards

The 2021 Decanter World Wine Awards results were released yesterday and we are extremely pleased to announce that Stella Bella has taken out TWO prestigious Platinum Medals!

The official video of the Decanter World Wine Awards 2021 explaining the scrupulous judging process and high regard for the awards.

Stella Bella 2019 Luminosa Chardonnay – 97 points
Reveals layer after layer of bright, lean and direct flavours, such as yellow apple, green mango, peach and baking spice, augmented by a saline, mineral undertow and a delicious hint of cream towards the end. Excellent!”

Stella Bella 2019 Suckfizzle Semillon Sauvignon Blanc – 97 points
“Breathtaking fresh grass, spring pea, fresh honeydew melon and guava nose. Pure silk on the palate, with an effortless gloss and sheen, slippery white flowers, nettles and lime. Just lovely with a very long finish and lingering acidity.”

The Decanter World Wine Awards are the world’s largest and most influential wine competition and this year included over 18,000 wines from across the globe. The judging panel consists of almost 170 expert wine judges, including 44 Masters of Wine and 11 Master Sommeliers.

This makes Stella Bella’s wins even more impressive, when you consider they were not only 1 of 9 Australian producers to be awarded Platinum medals, but the only WA producer to win Platinum as well!

This is the third Platinum Medal from Decanter for the Suckfizzle SBS after the 2015 and 2016 vintages also took home the award. Looking back over the past 3-4 years, both the Suckfizzle SBS and Luminosa Chardonnay have consistently been awarded top medals with scores of 95 points and above.

Earlier this year, our team visited the Stella Bella cellar door and vineyards in southern Margaret River. Winemaker, Luke Joliffe and viticulturist, Steve Martin showed us through the winery and various vineyard sites, and we had the opportunity to taste through all 5 Stella Bella ranges.

One of the most striking things was the meticulous understanding of the vineyard environment and microclimates, and the care that Steve and the team take in cultivating such superb fruit. In both the Luminosa and Suckfizzle vineyards, Steve showed (and let us smell) the organic layers of soil, and explained the significant and considered effects of the sea breeze and afternoon sunshine. The Suckfizzle vineyard is actually at sea level, which is a rarity in Margaret River and that altitude and the climate it provides is evident in the grassiness and acidity of the SBS.

These Platinum Awards are no lucky strike. These wines are absolutely deserving of the recognition they are being given across the globe and we look forward to seeing the Stella Bella team
