Located at the top of the Rabajà hill, Barbaresco’s historical cru, the house overlooks an endless vista of gently sloping Langhe country. The wines of Ca’Romé have impressive structure, body and cellar life and exquisitely fine perfume, elegance and balance. The vineyards span five hectares, partly in Barbaresco, partly in Serralunga d’Alba in Barolo territory, and the average annual production is 2500 cases.
Barbaresco Sorì Rio Sordo takes its name from the ‘sunny side’ – sorì in Piedmontese – of the Rio Sordo terroir and displays all the finesse of this famous cru: intense, concentrated aromas of ripe red berry fruit, wild roses, violets and liquorice, the palate framed by juicy acidity with refined tannins and a supple finish.
The Barolos – Rapet and Cerretta – are both from Serralunga, where the wines’ magnitude and structure is conferred by the iron-rich soil. Rapet is from a one hectare vineyard within the township of Serralunga, planted in 1972. Its elegant bouquet of roses, ripe fruit, floral and spicy notes is followed by a full-bodied palate with balanced components of fruit, tannins and acidity with a long finish.
Cerretta is one of Serralunga’s designated crus, and the vines – planted in 1961 – yield a very low crop. It offers excellent concentration of rich, dark fruit with notes of tobacco, licorice, roses, violets and vanilla. The palate is long and persistent with smooth, velvety tannins and great structure for decades of cellaring.
