Frascole 2017 Chianti Rufina Riserva receives 97 points from Decanter Magazine

Frascole 2017 Chianti Rufina Riserva has received 97 points in a review from Decanter Magazine:

‘Only 7,000 bottles of this Riserva were made and it’s a beauty in terms of the freshness and directness of the fruit. It comes from the estate’s stoniest and highest vineyard. On the palate the texture of both its fruit and oak tannins from barrel ageing provide a wonderfully smooth, bright and mouth watering ride. Organic.’ 97 points, Monty Waldin.

Chianti Rufina producer Frascole is the classic Italian quiet achiever.

Enrico Lippi revived an abandoned estate, originally a medieval village, in the early 1990’s and by 1999 all vineyards had achieved certified organic status.

Frascole is one of only 22 producers in Chianti Rufina, approximately 40 km’s north east of Florence.

As expected Sangiovese and Trebbiano make up the majority of plantings but in recent years Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Merlot have been added to the range.

When introducing us to Frascole some years back, Nick Belfrage MW was confident that within a decade Frascole would be recognised as one of the best producers in Tuscany.

Enrico remains frustrated that as a Chianti Rufina producer he can not charge the premium price of the more recognised Chianti Classico producers, the Frascole Chianti Classico Riserva remains one of the best value reds in our Italian portfolio.
