‘Via Caves’ is a quality focussed, food friendly, sophisticated wine, that delivers both regional and varietal character at an affordable price.
Our single source fruit for all Via Caves wines comes from an established vineyard in Margaret River’s renowned Wilyabrup sub region, west of Cowaramup.
A few words from Dave Mullen about Via Caves:
“Over almost 30 years we have established numerous brands in the WA market.
This experience, along with the long term friendship of wine guy Paul McArdle, who manages Wayfinder vineyard; our source of fruit from this very special site. This has allowed us to develop a brand that fits perfectly into our portfolio.
It’s an understatement to say that in 2020 the vineyard was managed in an ‘environmentally friendly’ way, as just prior to the 2022 vintage the vineyard was ‘Certified Organic’, becoming one of only a handful of WA vineyards to have achieved this status.
Winemaking direction leans towards low intervention.
The fruit quality in 2020 was exceptional and this shows through across all three wines.
We look forward to showing you these wines.”

Three wines were produced in 2020:
Via Caves 2020 Chardonnay
Via Caves 2020 Syrah
Via Caves 2020 Cabernet Merlot
Please find the Tasting Notes listed below
Via Caves 2020 Chardonnay
Fermented 50% in 1 year old French oak, 50% in stainless steel. The barrel component was left on lees to add complexity and texture and the oak very much plays a secondary role.
Fruit quality is exemplary with typical regional stone fruit, grapefruit and citrus flavours.
The palate is medium weight with bright fruit and crisp acidity.
This is a balanced, clean, food friendly Chardonnay.
Via Caves 2020 Cabernet Merlot
Has unmistakable Margaret River regional character with all four varieties contributing.
Aromatics are a complex blend of berry fruits, light herbal characters and subtle French oak.
The seamless palate is quintessential Margaret River Cabernet with layers of dark berry fruits and exotic spice supported by background oak.
Via Caves 2020 Syrah
Both the vibrant colour and enticing aromas show the quality of the Shiraz fruit from vintage 2020.
The lifted aromatics are blueberry and black berry with background spice and an overlay of peppermint.
Similar characters come through on the medium weight palate, supported by fine grain tannins and integrated oak.
This is an elegant, flavoursome Syrah that is immediately enjoyable while having 3 to 5 years cellaring potential.
