“The value for money represented by Lake Breeze is nothing short of extraordinary”, according to Tyson Stelzer of the Halliday Wine Companion.
Lake Breeze is perhaps the most underrated producer in our portfolio, despite their full-bodied Cabernet and Shiraz winning trophies and gold medals at wine shows across the country for decades.
Langhorne Creek as a wine producing region does not get the recognition it deserves, remaining little known and ‘unfashionable’ in the eyes of many WA wine consumers. One of Australia’s oldest winemaking regions, it sits at the southern end of the Adelaide Hills in South Australia, on the edge of Lake Alexandrina. The cooling afternoon breeze off this massive body of water (600 square kilometres: 3 times the size of Sydney Harbour!) gives the ‘Lake Breeze’ winery its name.
The Follett family have been farmers and grape growers in this region since the mid 1800s, building up amazing assets in mature vineyards.
The great value in the Lake Breeze wines starts with their ‘entry level’ Bullant range:
2018 Bullant Shiraz
2018 Bullant Cabernet Merlot
Gold Medal, Royal Adelaide Wine Show 2020
Both wines comfortably retail under $20, yet come from 25-30 year old vines and show a combination of generous fruit that benefits from 15 months in oak.
The Lake Breeze Cabernet Sauvignon, due to the cooling effects of the breeze from Lake Alexandrina, drinks more like a Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon (300km to the south).
Winemaker, Greg Follett insists that simplicity is key when it comes to Lake Breeze winemaking. “It’s really that raw material that’s the key…part of our mantra is ‘accessibility to our wines’. We want everybody to be able to enjoy our wines and value’s a big part of that.”

“This the Lake Breeze signature wine, produced from the best rows of the estate vineyard. Deep crimson-purple; it is challenging in the best possible way by its complexity, balanced with juicy black fruits, licorice and spice on the mid-palate, then moving decisively to bright acidity and bitter chocolate on the textured finish.” – James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion 2020
