More about the Producer

Antonella Corda, named as Italy’s ’emerging winemaker’ by Gambero Rosso ‘Italian Wine Guide’ in 2019, is part of the Argiolas family, one of Serdiana’s [southern Sardinia] best known wine producers.

The winery is a little under 30 km’s north of Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia that overlooks the Mediterranean in the south of the island. Only three wines are produced under this label, two whites [Vermentino and Nuragus] and the one red [Cannonau] with the fruit quality in each exceptional.

Both the 2016 and 2017 Cannonau were awarded the prestigious Tre Bicchieri awards by Gambero Rosso. Cannonau, a local variant of Grenache, is Sardinia’s number one red wine, a variety now believed to have originated on Sardinia and one strongly linked to the longevity of their population. Sardinia shares the equal highest ratio of ‘centenarians’ in the world with Osaka [Japan]and the high level of naturally occurring antioxidants found in Cannonau is linked to heart health.

Vermentino is the number one white grape on Sardinia and seems more at home here than on mainland Italy, the textural wines combining a range of Mediterranean fruits with a good sprinkling of salinity.

Fruit for the Corda range comes from two vineyard sites including ‘Mitza Manna’, the favourite vineyard of Antonella’s grandfather Antonio Argiolas.

Sardinia is regarded as one of the most exciting wine regions in Italy and the Antonella Corda range is among the best produced on the island.
