Pike and Joyce, in the Lenswood sub region of the Adelaide Hills, holds the title of the most picturesque vineyard in our domestic portfolio.
The view from the cellar door / winery at approximately 690 meter asl is nothing short of spectacular. A visit here helps you understand why aspect is so important in this region. e.g. the best Pinot Noir fruit comes from the north facing vineyard, with fruit from this site going to the aptly named ‘Vue du Nord’ Pinot Noir.
Pike and Joyce offer a range of varieties that are perfectly suited to this cool climate site, with the key to all wines being elegance and balance. The range of wines continues to go from strength to strength.
An entry level Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir [both labelled ‘Rapide’] are a good indication of the value in this range but wines such as the Vue du Nord Pinot Noir and Reserve Chardonnay show the sites true potential. The 2016 Reserve Chardonnay collected three trophies at the Adelaide Hills Wine Show.
And a recently introduced Nebbiolo will soon make it way into the WA market. Only one barrel was produced in 2016, five barrels in 2017 after Nebbiolo was grafted onto existing vines in the spring / summer of 2014. Nebbiolo will join varieties such as Gruner Veltliner as examples of the Pike and Joyce teams ongoing work to find the international varieties best suited to this site.
