My first impression of Samuels Gorge wines, tasting wines at the cellar door in 2006, was that they clearly were made by someone that cares – fruit quality, mouthfeel, balance and length were consistent across all wines. They stood out among a selection of wines tried across the region
As I have got to know Justin McNamee over the years, and tried each new vintage for over a decade, that first tasting observation is reinforced over and over.
Samuels Gorge crafts a small range of red wines with a focus on Shiraz, Tempranillo and Grenache.
But vintage to vintage there are always some surprises and last year we the Samuels Gorge Gamay into WA. This Beaujolais variety is not one that you would immediately associate with McLaren Vale but it looks to be right at home on a vineyard site specifically selected for this variety.
Samuels Gorge is driven by Justin’s passion and focus. They are wines of genuine quality and character that do what all great wines should do – make you want a second glass. And they have marvellous food compatibility
