Xanadu 2014 Premium Cabernet Sauvignon

Trophy Winner: Best Cabernet Sauvignon
National Wine Show of Australia, Canberra, 2016

This wine has been on the market for some time now but all good things come to an end, the 2015 vintage will roll out in November.

I must say that I like the approach from Xanadu and that when you have a cracking vintage both in terms of quality and quantity, make the most of it.
There has been plenty of this wine enjoyed over the last 12 months.

In both awards and reviews, the Xanadu 2014 Premium Cabernet Sauvignon has received plenty of attention.
Along with the trophy winner from The National Wine Show, Canberra where it was judged the best Cabernet Sauvignon in Australia in a very competitive class you can add a 96 point review from James Halliday and a further gold medal at the Margaret River Wine Show.

While the awards and reviews are impressive, you also have to take into account that these accolades are a little dated and probably don’t do the wine, as it now drinks, total justice.

Further time in the bottle has seen this wine blossom and the signs are that this will continue to evolve slowly over the next decade and more.

Another pretty basic observation in relation to this wine – it rewards decanting. Like all great wines it needs some time to show everything that it has.
In todays world too many wines are tasted or consumed without being given the chance to fully open up.

When first opened this shows quite opulent, fully ripened blueberry fruits on both the nose and palate.
Give this wine some air and some time and it looks more Bordeaux like, more complex.
It has power and elegance, clearly the highly regarded 2014 vintage delivered outstanding fruit and the winemaking here is all class.

With their outstanding and consistent run of wine show success, Xanadu deserves to be in the very top bracket when it comes to Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon.
And in this company, wines like their 2014 Premium Cabernet Sauvignon stand out like a beacon as one of the best value.
